#66 Goodbye
I am saying goodbye to Dukan.
As I stated in my last post I started the Garcinia Cambogia. I took it for 3 weeks to see how it would really do for me. Basically I ate well and I maintained my weight. No gain, no loss.
Then one day about a week and a half ago I watched a documentary called Sick, Fat and Nearly Dead. I was so inspired by this movie that I investigated the concept of juicing again. I say again because I have seen these crazy people on youtube before. Raw foodies, vegans etc. Let me state this right now… I am not a vegan, and never will be. I believe meat is put on this earth for humans to eat and there is a reason for it. However at this moment, I cannot resort my self to going back on the Dukan Diet for a period of 4-6 months to get the rest of the weight off. It worked for the first 40 lbs but it is hard on the kidneys and it can be acidic to the system.
Juicing is also used in the Gerson Therapy to heal cancer and other terminal diseases. It brings the body into an alkaline state which is very healing since disease cannot grow in an alkaline ph. It needs an acidic host.
Therefore I am here to state that I bought my first juicer (not true, I had one before and it was so much work to clean we sold it in a yard sale). But now I bought my first professional juicer. Its a Breville brand. Centrifugal type which is ok for now.
Last week I tried some recipes and some were good, some were rank. I also find that I would get a headache by supper time. After I ate a meal, it went away.
Yesterday, I had juice for breakfast, coffee, a carrot and an apple and I got a headache so I stuffed my face with pizza for dinner. Hey it was mothers day! Plus I did have salad with that.
But today is the day. I will get through this week with pure juices, and I will eat a fruit or veg when I get super hungry. I also want to keep the tubes rolling if you know what I mean.
Well I read constantly that men and women lose 25-30 lbs a month doing this so it will be interesting to see how long I can last. They say once you get past the first 8 days, its easier.
I am doing this to break my junk food, sugar, and just plain food addictions. I want mind clarity and peaceful state of being that most people brag about on this diet.
I also want to see why, in the Holy Bible, Daniel asked to be put on a diet of pulse (veg) and water to be the best he and his friends could be in mind, body and spirit. They came out on top in the end so it cant be all that bad for me to do.
Not sure how I am going to continue this blog. I will have to start another possibly for juice feasting. I will video my progress but wont post that until I am done the process.
When I have another blog set up I will post a link here.
Now I must finish my concoction of pineapple, carrot, and orange juice. mmmm
Take care all you wonderful peeps.
Dee.
#65 A little update
Hey there. I just thought I should stop by and update you on what has been going on since my last post.
Week one, we had school break, birthday party and a sugar binge…
Then week 2 I got the flu and went totally off dukan.
Week 3 I had 8 days of headaches including tension, cluster, and then a migraine.
Needless to say I had a crappy month. I started to feel like a normal person by Friday of this week. It totally sabotaged my diet. I am also home fulltime and my eating schedule is out of sync.
So basically my weight skyrocketed up to around 210 and then all of a sudden came back down to 205. Well that was to say that I stopped eating sugar like it was going out of style. Mind you I have not been on dukan completely either. I start my day off each morning with eggs and coffee. Protein during the day with some veg. but at dinner I have been eating small amounts of carbs whether its some rice or potato, I am not on the plan properly.
I have a new confession also, I am starting to hate the diet. I am still on low fat dairy, low sugar, (use xylitol in place of sugar in my coffee) but for dinner, I am finding myself eating small amount of carbs. I came back to this diet knowing that if I stuck to it for max 6 months, I would not worry about my kidneys or high levels of ketosis. I do not want to be on this forever.
Im not going to continue Dukan to the tee….
I will be incorporating some carbs and I have decided to try garcinia cambogia. This is a supplement that I take 30-60 min before each meal. It blocks the liver from forming sugars into fats and therefore using carbs for energy.
I am not going to eat carbs as a regular person would. I am restricting them to small amounts at dinner. I don’t eat bread regularly either. But if I have a piece of pizza, it will not make me feel guilty.
I just got my supply of garcinia cambogia from curease (no affiliation, just found them to have a good reputation after tons of research). I bought the bottle of capsules which I open and put into water or coffee etc 30 min before meal. And I also bought their GC in powder form in a bag. But the bag does not include potassium and calcium which helps the GC to absorb better. So Im starting with the capsules for now.
Each capsule has 1000mg GC so 3 times a day will keep me at recommended dose of 3000mg/day.
Last night was the first time I took them. Its suppose to suppress appetite but I was hungry and had 3 pieces of pizza. However I found myself very thirsty. As you know I often use the NOW brand drink sticks (they have just changed their name to Vita Squenchers!!) Man did I ever have a time trying to find them in stock the past month…that’s another story…they were pulled from distribution until they changed the name. …
Ok so back to my original thought…I was very thirsty. I had 2 bottles of flavored water and then had to drink a third. Ya I was thirsty. I wonder if that was from the GC.
Today I was still down a pound of weight from yesterday…206 to 205.
Im going to do this regime for a week, tell you what I eat, and if I go under 204, it will be a success.
So this is the start of 1 week on GC. High protein, low fat, veg, restricted carbs, sugars and fruits.
So you see I am officially off Dukan. However if my weight loss continues, then my goal is closer to being achieved.
I am feeling more desperate to lose 50 lbs as fast as I can. Spring is here and summer is on its way and that makes me feel better.
My next supplement that I am looking into is resveratrol for health and energy. I will tell you when I get into that one but for now my experiment is with Garcinia Cambogia.
Sorry if this is a disappointment for you Dukan dieters. Yes this means that I quit the official dukan diet but I have to do what works best for me and at this time I just want to be healthy and lose weight.
Wish me well…

#62 how its going
So last week I started Dukan again. By last Friday I was down to 208 from 213 which was 5 lbs which was amazing. But then I went on an overnight date and I gained 3 lbs back by Monday. I have to say that I did not want my diet to spoil my weekend but on the other hand I did order things keeping in mind not to over do it. But the point is that my pure protein days went from that to eating sugar and carbs. Over the course of the weekend I did have some popcorn, bread, brownie ice cream dessert, potatoes, and alcohol.
Monday I went back to strict dieting and now its the next Friday and I lost the 3 lbs gain from the weekend. So I was back down to 208 today. Hopefully by Monday, I can lose 2 more lbs and make the 2 week start a 7 lb loss. I will be on the road Sunday and have to eat out. I will try to keep it limited to protein and veg. but I know that restaurant food is loaded with salt and that affects me badly.
I could have been lower in weight but I would not give up the weekend and foods for anything so I have no regrets. I knew this going into the first week of diet but I still decided to start the diet anyway. Why not right? right! I am still the better for it because I am past the first pp attack phase and the diet gets easier after the initial week.
Enjoy the snow and shovelling. I got my exercise today!!

#62 Getting raked over the coals???
Wow, yes I was blasted a few times this week while on Dukan forums asking about upping my calories with protein shakes. I was basically told that I was NOT following the dukan diet if I was to use protein shakes!! Well I guess Im doing my own diet then. I should write a book about it and call it the Dukan alternative. Exactly the same except I add 45g of protein and 300 using whey powder in my skim milk
This is a typical day for me;
2 eggs with slice turkey breast
coffee
Thats breakfast 200 cal
chicken breast, yogurt, cottage cheese
Thats lunch 360 cal
bottle water 15 cal
bottle water 15 cal
Whey protein with skim milk: 300 cal
Dinner:
Hamburger meatballs 300 cal
bottle water 15
2 slices swiss cheese 120
So then 200,390,300,435 equals:1325 calories
If I have fish instead of burger, that would drop my calories so I would add 1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds to make up about 150 caloires.
So that is how its going this week
When I add vegetables in a couple of days, it does not really add many calories as a tossed salad only counts as about 33 calories. Carrots are 52 calories a cup but high in carbs.
Since Monday I have lost a pound a day. Monday:213 Friday:208
I am going away this weekend and will be eating out. I hope it does not ruin my weightloss week.

#61 Starting over
This weekend I made 10 lbs of meat balls. Baked them in the oven. Its the easiest way to process that kind of meat. Easier than frying 40 meat patties thats for sure.
I had chinese food Saturday night and I felt sick afterwards. It was as if my stomach was being stretched out and something was sore inside. All night even when I woke up in the morning, it felt like that. Then Sunday I started with pure protein. As I was ending the day I figured that I was not eating enought calories so I made a list. Then I ate a few tbs of peanut butter. I also had a bit of green peppers and the meatloaf has dehydrated veg in it but not enough to count as vegetables.
I started yesterday at 212 lbs and today I was UP a flippen pound. I also have a headache and I feel and look like I gained 10 lbs on my face. I wonder what it is. I have to start this diet with the intent to succeed but on the other hand I cannot afford 3 days of headaches or any sign of constipation. So I will alter it as I see fit. If I cannot do 3 days of pp I will have to add veg and understand that the weightloss will be slower coming. I dont think I need that big water loss in the first week to motivate me, cause I know the diet works. Its just nice when it happens.
When I worked with my personal trainer last year he said I had to be doing 1800 calories. Well, I am not working out but I will try to set a goal at 12-1500 calories. I made a list of the things I eat and they are so low in calories that I wonder if I will have to eat a few tablespoons of peanut butter to make up for it. I think that might work against me even if I am eating natural pb.
oatbran 40 calories limited
oatbran muffin 70 calories limited
skim milk 85 calories a cup
yogurt ff plain 80 cal/ 3/4 cup
cottage cheese ff 100 cal 1/2 cup
swiss cheese slices 60 cal
hamburger pattie or meatball 175 cal
chicken breast 180
sliced turkey breast 25 cal /slice
eggs 80 cal
can of tuna 120 cal
steak 6 oz 360
steak 3 oz round 235 cal
peanut butter 1 tbs 100 cal
fish salmon 335 cal
fish other: 150 cal
shrimp 3 oz 110 cal
salad tossed 33 cal
carrots 52 cal / cup
pumkin seeds?
condiments:
mayo low fat 30 cal / tbs
ketchup 30 cal
drink sticks 15 cal each
cocoa 12 cal / tbs
whey protein shake: 210 cal 1/2 scoop
So there, I cant think of much else to make up my diet with. Its actually difficult to eat more than you can on this diet because the protein fills you up on small amounts and your stomach shrinks and is not used to eating large amounts of food after a while.
Im gonna have to ask the Dukan people about my intent for reaching 1500 cal a day to start and if pb is okay or if my whey shake would be a better choice.
Either way I cannot survive a continual weight loss on 900 calories a day. I will plateau and have no where to go from there.
Well these are my thoughts for the day. So far I ate 2 eggs and a slice of turkey breast, coffee with xylitol and skim milk. I hope and pray this works for me second time around and that I have the discipline to stick with it.
Dee.
#60 ahh Im gonna start over.
I tried the body type diet but I could not stick with it. Too many cravings and I found that I could not handle the 5 and 6 hour time spans between meals. I was told that I could eat low fat dairy during those difficult times but not to make a habit of it.
Well, the reason why I was able to lose 40lbs last year on Dukan, was because I was allowed to eat whenever I wanted in whatever amounts I wanted as long as it was on the allowed list.
I have to admit that at the beginning I did not eat enough calories and I have to try to get up to at least 1200/1500 calories a day especially in the beginning months. And if I plateau I can dip down to 900/1000 a week here and there.
So I have decided to start again. I am not sure what day I will begin. I have been bindging on sugar and I should try to wean off of that before I go gung ho.
So I will have to go shopping and spend Sunday cooking large quantities of meats so that I can just grab and go my meals through the week or whenever I need them.
I remember the easiest thing to grab was the meat patties and cooked chicken breast. Looks like I should be on Dukan full force by February.
I still use xylitol in my coffee and the Now brand drink sticks to flavor the yogurt and water, we still drink skim milk and my Hubby still eats and buys all the fat free cottage cheese and yogurt so there will be no real changes here. I will miss fruit and rye bread and cheese. hmmm
Im gonna read my blog from the start and see how to manage it again. However I will not let the sugar headache come back. I am used to xylitol and I will wean off of sugar slowly so that I dont get a sick headache.
Wish me luck!

#59 its a new year.
Hey everyone.
So I lost a total 0f 40 lbs last year on the Dukan diet. It was good to lose a lot of weight but when I got into exercising I found that I did not have enough calories. I think that is why I plateaued so much. Because my calories were sooo low from the beginining that I got used to that. And one cheat a week would keep me from losing all together. Dieting in the summer is difficult.
This is a new year. I gained about 10 lbs back after being off a diet for 4 months and going on vacation and getting through the holidays.
Not too bad. I maintain at about 208 right now.
So I am starting a new diet. Its called the body type diet. Im gonna try this one and see how it goes for a couple of weeks. If I lose weight and am comfortable with the plan, I will continue it. If not, I will go back to the dukan diet way.
I have 50 lbs to lose.
I will update on my progress.
Dee.
#58 weigh in day
Just a short post:
weight: 195 lbs
down from 235
40 lbs lost.
(from Sept 3 at 206-195 = – 11lbs in 3 weeks)
I will be starting to take raspberry ketones this week.
I will see how it goes.
Dee
UPDATE: I will be back with the next weigh in day Mon Oct 8th. I fell off wagon last week and not feeling good and headaches but I will be back on this week and will try to get through Thanksgiving without falling off again.
